Ramaz Studios

THE EXPERIENCE

Ramaz Studios, a virtual production studio in London, is utilizing a SiliconCore Magnolia 1.5mm LED wall in 4K resolution to create a virtual backdrop for interviews, product photography, videography, music videos, corporate commercials, feature films, driving scenes, live broadcasts and much more.

As a self-funded studio, initiatives to maximize space, reduce operational costs and operate sustainably were very important business decisions in choosing an LED display partner. SiliconCore was proud to provide technology solutions that addressed these core issues for Ramaz Studios along with maximizing performance.

BEHIND THE SCENES

The 1.5mm LED wall presents 4K resolution imagery in 19’ x 10.5’ (5.8m x 3.2m), to deliver highly realistic backgrounds with impeccable clarity and depth of color.

Driven by SiliconCore’s proprietary technologies, the display features 16-bit internal processing and achieves a vivid color gamut with lifelike color reproduction. Extra wide viewing angle of 160-degrees and high dynamic range with SiliconCore ZACH technology, brings enhanced detail to both areas of low and high brightness, making the display excel as a virtual production backdrop.

The high brightness capability of the display means that Ramaz Studios only needs to operate it at 3% - 10% of the wall’s total brightness, maintaining the intensity of color for longer across the total product lifetime, which is expected to exceed 100,000 hours, protecting their investment.

This also contributes to the studio’s sustainability initiatives to operate with a low carbon footprint. All SiliconCore displays feature its Common Cathode driver technology, which powers individual LEDs in a more efficient way, resulting in 20-50% lower power consumption and running much cooler than similar displays. This combined with running at a reduced brightness delivers an overall reduced total cost of ownership, a key decision for a studio in keeping costs low without compromising on performance.

Another advantage of the SiliconCore 1.5mm wall is that the camera can be just two meters away, further optimizing space and maximizing the usage of the studio. Ramaz Studios is ahead of the curve when it comes to offering a 1.5mm pixel pitch for a virtual studio, with the industry average still being 2.5-2.9mm. Having this technology has given them a significant unique selling point in the market, which is helping to democratize the industry and open new opportunities for smaller studios.

Virtual productions come with the added benefits of being able to transport people to different locations in the same space, reducing the need for travel, having full control of the weather and lighting, reducing overall production costs, and giving rise to a more sustainable industry.

Mazin Bondok, co-founder of Ramaz Studios:

“Smaller pixel pitch LED displays are leading the charge in the virtual production market as they maximize the use of space. Working with SiliconCore and benefiting from its advanced performance and reduced carbon footprint, we can save operational costs and deliver a higher standard of production, setting us apart from even larger production houses. “

“We were one of the first virtual production studios to opt for tighter pixel pitches and have now witnessed an upward trend with other studios following suit. Creative agencies are always really impressed with the image quality working with an LED wall in comparison to a green screen and immediately grasp its value once they begin working with it. This has led us to tremendous growth in our region and accelerated our plans to open more studio space.”
